Story Generator, a new work by Ana Torfs at Atelier Bouwmeester

(Lecture in English)

At the invitation of the Vlaams Bouwmeester Team, visual artist Ana Torfs realized a new work entitled Story Generator, which will be unveiled at the Atelier Bouwmeester on 19 November. A rotating ‘apparatus’ executed entirely in copper, Story Generator calls to mind not only index card systems like Rolodex but also the mutoscope, a precursor to the cinema, with which the viewer rapidly flips through a series of cards to create the illusion of movement. Story Generator guides viewers/readers through more than 500 years of national history in a fragmented loop of interconnected stories and images, depicting the city district where the Atelier is located as a fascinating hotspot. On the occasion of the unveiling of the work, Dirk De Meyer will deliver a lecture in the series SmallTalks.
