Project description

The Vlaamse Landmaatschappij has already started up about twenty design projects for its 'Westhoek' Land Development Project. Many of them have already been implemented. In early 2007 the VLM started drawing up the Lovaart Stage 3 (Fintele) development plan. This is the final step in the development of the Lovaart as a green axis for recreation and valuable landscape in the overall Westhoek area.

At the heart of the assignment is the redevelopment of the public domain in the riverside hamlet of Fintele as a focus of tourist recreation. The objective is a simple design with plenty of greenery that takes account of the vulnerable, historical and unique nature of the location.

The development of this focus of tourist recreation may involve revaluating its cultural history elements, the expansion of angling, optimising the infrastructure for kayaking and canoeing, the creation of a cycling access point, and much more.

In concrete terms, the brief involves drawing up a development concept for the riverside hamlet of Fintele, covering both the public and private space, with the abovementioned elements as its main objectives. The challenge presented by this project is the task of combining the unique nature of the protected village and its recreational function to create an overall concept of very high quality.

The development concept is to be drawn up as a preparation for the development plan (info: www.vlm.be). This plan includes an overall concept for the public and private domains, the measures to be taken and an estimate of the cost for the public domain.
