Project description

The Institute for Agricultural and Fishery Research (ILVO) is a scientific institution administered by the Flemish Government (Agriculture and Fishery Department), located in a knowledge environment close to Ghent University and the polytechnics, and where multidisciplinary research is carried out in the fields of agriculture, horticulture and fishery.

The ILVO coordinates and carries out scientific research and provides the associated services in order to provide information for policy-making, and also focuses on agriculture and fishery that is sustainable and competitive in economic, ecological, social and societal terms.

These research activities are directed by four units: Plant, Animal, Technology & Foods and Agriculture & Society.

The four units all come under ILVO management, which is based at 96 Burg. Van Gansberghelaan, 9820 Merelbeke.

A general framework and step-by-step plan have been drawn up as part of a masterplan, and they form the basis for the medium and long-term vision for upgrading the organisation's buildings.

Timing: 3 stages over 12 years.

The Masterplan variant will be adhered to.

The overall picture in the masterplan involves 4 clusters for which guidelines and spatial options have been set. The 4 clusters do not correspond to the 4 units, but are combined as follows:

Cluster 1: Management / Agriculture & Society / Plant

Cluster 2: Technology & Food / Animal

Cluster 3: Plant / Technology & Food / Animal

Cluster 4: Plant

The current assignment is stage 1B, situated in cluster 1 (offices for management and A&S).

The aims are:

The importance of the spatial concept: orientation, compactness, functional-flexible, complies with accessibility standards; technical aspects: a low-energy office building with E70 and K30 levels, and for the technical installations low level of energy and water flow.
