Project description

The West Coast police zone operates in the boroughs of Koksijde, De Panne and Nieuwpoort. It aims for openness and dialogue, tailor-made services and the guarantee of individual rights and freedoms in the spirit of community-oriented police care. We want to provide police care in a professional manner and to pursue a chain-oriented approach in cooperation with all those who use our services. We set great store by such professional values as helpfulness, integrity and customer-friendliness, and offering rapid and professional service.

The headquarters currently consists of several separate buildings: the building formerly used by the Koksijde police, the old town hall and an annex. All these buildings are on the same site in the village of Koksijde.
There are also local stations in Nieuwpoort and De Panne.

The project involves building a new, modern and functional central police station on Marktplein in Koksijde.
The West Coast police zone has a total of 220 staff. 200 of them will work in the new central police station.

The Marktplein is on the one hand located in residential surroundings, but on the other it is characterised by several public buildings such as a cinema, service flats, a rest home, the indoor and outdoor museums of the Dune Abbey, and the Social Centre.
The location is also an excellent central position from which to easily reach the whole of the zone and is located along the road into Koksijde-Bad coming from the Koksijde-Veurne motorway turn-off. Because of the location of the building in relation to the Marktplein, the designer should also integrate a vision for the arrangement of the Marktplein into his plan (though the brief does not include any further development).

In addition to its receptive function, the central police station also includes the necessary office and circulation spaces, cells, an underground car park and a creche (for the staff). The usable floor area of the police station is 6000 sq. m.

The architecture should underpin the recognisability of the services provided by means of the materials used, logical arrangement of the plan, optimal accessibility and fitting into its surroundings.

All-inclusive fee of 10% (incl. stability, technical installations, etc.)
