Project description
The study assignment for the whole project, with an all-embracing idea for the entire campus, for the mainly internal reconditioning of the larger part of the former monastery building to make flats for the third age, a multicultural space for reflection and associated services.
Definition of project:
There is a long tradition of care for the elderly in Herdersem. It was started in 1864, by the ‘vzwGestichtderZustersJozefienen’(an order of nuns), and was later taken over by a lay group under the name ‘Denderrust’. This organisationnow offers an almost complete range of facilities for contemporary residential care centre (128 residents, 4 short-stay units, a day-care centre for 15 clients, a multipurpose hall with cafeteria and a large garden) but no flats for the elderly. Denderrustis well-known in the region for its motivated and high-quality care for the elderly.
The partial interior reconditioning which will create 15 flats for the elderly, a multicultural space for reflection and associated services should be carried out:
1) with respect for the cultural heritage (not classified) the building represents in its surroundings
2) in close conjunction with the adjacent Denderrustresidential care centre and with the small-scale creche(under construction) in the monastery building; all with a future-oriented view of care for the elderly.
