Project description
VITO is a leading independent European research and advice centre that makes innovative technology and scientific knowledge practically applicable for official bodies and business.
VITO provides intelligent and high-quality solutions from which business can derive a competitive advantage, and objective research, studies and advice that enable business and official bodies to set their future policy. VITO works in the fields of energy technology, environmental technology, industrial production and process technology, materials technology and observation of the earth from space.
VITO'sresearch is applied to new, efficient and cheaper production technology, reduced energy use, bio-materials, health care, environmental care, etc., and also the charting and monitoring of the effects of climate change. In this respect, the safeguarding of the environment and the sustainable use of energy and raw materials always have priority.
VITO has grown steadily since it was founded in 1991, from about 350 members of staff to about 500 today. It is based in Mol and shares a site with the Nuclear Energy Study Centre.
The increase in research assignments and the growth in staffing require additional lab and office space. The office space will be used to link the two buildings, therebybridging an existing entranceway.
In the future this new building will function as the entrance building to the VITO site and must therefore communicate the VITO image.
