Project description

A comprehensive commission for a study for the construction of approximately 60 residences for the third age
on the 'Den Boomgaard' site in Baal.
Tremelo, a community of approximately 14,000 inhabitants, is located in a rural area containing several green
building zones. A number of major cities are located within a radius of 50 km: Leuven (the capital of the
province of Flemish Brabant), Brussels (the capital of Europe) and Antwerp (the capital of the province of
Antwerp).
Tremelo is a dormitory town that is evolving toward residential development. The prospective 'Den Boomgaard'
project aims to fit into this evolution. The wide availability of large houses with large gardens that are difficult to
maintain for the elderly is a causes of the rise in demand for comfortable housing for this population group. The
'Den Boomgaard' site is located near the centre of the borough of Baal, in the immediate vicinity of shops, a
church, etc. The location offers every guarantee of a successful integration into the social fabric.
The client has opted for a project including various types of housing. In addition to the construction of the
residences and the necessary infrastructure, this project also includes the planning of green space, a
communal space and a multifunctional space for the OCMW [Social Services] (second-hand shop, storage for
the handyman service, etc.).
This housing project will be carried out in various phases, spread over time.
