The site in Neder-over-Heembeek is home to the BuSO, the MPI and the reception centre. The BuSO is currently housed in a series of pavilions scattered over a large area of the site, and the MPI is housed in a permanent two-storey building. The pavilions are in a very poor state and have to be replaced. It is important to note that the work of the school, boarders’ accommodation and reception centre must be able to continue during the building work (including school holidays). This is why the option is to carry out the whole operation in 3 stages: the first stage is the building of new boarders’ accommodation on an unbuilt part of the site, the second is the refitting of the present boarders’ accommodation for the BuSO and the third is the demolition of the existing pavilions and their replacement by a new building. Another important element is the school’s target group: this is special education, which requires a specific approach.
