Project description

On a site of about 40 ha., the Boterakker npo is carrying out the Agropolis Kinrooi project. It is a matter of filling an agricultural business park with companies that develop innovative initiatives in agriculture and horticulture. This innovative activity is intended to bring about a changeover in the regional agricultural sector. Boterakker npo also wants to offer opportunities to entrepreneurs who want to invest in new forms of cultivation (both vegetable and animal) and use the latest methods, and who put great emphasis on clean-tech, sustainability and precision farming. There is also a place at Agropolis for entrepreneurs who switch to aquaculture or horticulture under glass and use green energy.

Since modern man is as a consumer becoming increasingly alienated from agriculture, while as a tourist is becoming increasingly curious about how it all works and where his food actually comes from, the npo itself wants to invest in a collective agricultural building. This building contains a visitor reception area, a business incubator area, a machine hall and an aquaculture hall.

The visitor reception area is to provide space to welcome groups of visitors – tourists, schools, professionals – that want to learn more, interactively or otherwise, about the activities generated on the site. There is also a meeting and exhibition area with office space. The collective building also contains a business incubator hall that provides room for production and offices for starter companies and a space for existing cooperatives from Kinrooi that hire out farm machines to farmer-members. Lastly, the aquaculture hall offers space for and stimulates aquaculture.

The aim of this collective building is to provide room for the various functions in a close relationship with one another. This is intended to make the use of the spaces flexible and enable visitors to have one foot in the production areas. In this way the building can also be a showcase for the whole Agropolis and represent all the ambitions of Agropolis in a single building.

In order to create a certain cohesion and allure across the whole site, a visual quality plan is to be generated on the basis of the project for the collective agricultural building. In this way, Boterakker npo wants in the long term to create and establish an identity for Agropolis on the site. The cohesion and allure of the site itself is also to be set in the broader landscape context of the RivierPark Maasvallei. In this way a synergy can be generated between Agropolis and the RivierPark to the benefit of the appeal and experience of the site. Agropolis can, partly on the basis of a well-adjusted visual quality, be labelled and promoted as a hotspot of innovative, future-oriented and sustainable agriculture within the broad cross-border RivierPark Maasvallei (about 15,000 ha.). As part of the visual quality plan, unique (and possibly compulsory) guidelines for the construction of company buildings and the layout of their grounds should make for cohesion and high-value shared recreational use.

The design team will be brought in for quality control to guarantee the visual quality. To this end the design team will at regular intervals give advice to the principal. Quality control will be carried out at an hourly rate for supplementary work, as will be stated in the tender.
